Good morning Gentle Readers. In the interest of full disclosure, I'm going to show you pics of my ongoing battle with Bishop's Weed otherwise known as The Devil's Work:
Do you see those lovely brown patches of earth? The dastardly weed once lived there. In the background you can still see it growing abundantly.
Here it is slowly dying.
Die sucker!!!
I've decided to use the divide and conquer approach and just do a few specific areas at a time.
Lovely.
There has been some collateral damage but I expected that. After all, that's the cost of doing war. I think I'm actually winning on this. I'm sure at least I've kept the Roundup company in business.

My Summer Job
Today is the last day of work for my husband. He is a teacher and has two months off every summer. Tomorrow is the first day of work for me. For two months every summer I work and then have from the first of September until the end of June off.
My husband does not like to be idle. He does not like me to be idle either.
Here is our summer list of things to do:
Shingle the back of the house.
Stain the back of the house.
Install tongue and groove boards on our bathroom ceiling.
Finish trim work in bathroom andneverendingreno Studio.
Remove wallpaper from living room. Have walls skim coated. Paint said walls. Note: this room has been decluttered since this photo was taken. Am very happy.
Reinstall heating pipe from furnace to #2's bedroom. don't ask.
Repair chimney.
Install front walk.
Major tree trimming.
Phew! I'm tuckered out just writing this. Pray for me.
Over and out.

A Rose by Any Other Name...
My yellow roses are out in abundance now. They don't last for long so I took some pics for you.
I don't know if you can tell, but they are really thorny.
Don't ask me what they are called because I cannot remember. I do remember I got the bush for dirt cheap because it looked near death.
Here are some other roses:
It's not a great picture but there are four other kinds of roses there.
The wind was blowing so hard when I took this, I couldn't get a nice shot. I love the white rose bush. It has a heavenly scent.
I will end this pleasant discourse by showing you the new peony I got this year. Can you see her little visitor?
Cheers!

This Weekend I...
Waited until very late Friday evening to go on my date because hubby was out riding with his buddy. Hmm.
Watched four episodes of this while waiting:
Made fresh waffles with Bird's custard, strawberries and whipped cream for supper on Saturday because it was so hot.
Was visited by a dear friend from Ireland! Hadn't seen her in years and we just started off like I had talked to her yesterday. She brought us some beautiful Nicholas Mosse pottery from Kelkenny:
BTW, she's a wonderful story teller and years ago my hubby got his first asthma attack ever from laughing at her so hard. He ended up in the ER.
Watched The Blind Side:
Went here for lunch to celebrate Father's Day:
Kind of felt like I was back in New York. Sort of. Well...
Watched this guy on HGTV marathon. Love him.

When the Bough Breaks
We had quite the excitement here at the cottage yesterday. I was lounging working around upstairs when I heard a tremendous crash. The dishes were rattling so I couldn't tell if the noise came from inside the house or out. When I got downstairs, I glanced out the kitchen window and found this:
We have a huge ash tree in our front yard about 25 feet from the house. The tree is at least 30 feet tall and over 200 years old. It was extremely windy here yesterday which is odd because we are in a very sheltered spot. The branch that fell is about 15 ft long.
Thankfully, it fell sideways from the house, across the front path and just missing the garden border.
I immediately feared for my kitty Millie's life. She loves hanging around the garden there.
There she is, all her lives intact.
I called hubby to tell him the news and his first comment was, "Did it hit the truck?" Have to get your priorities straight you know.
When hubby came home, he could tell the branch had broken off because of theWoody pilliated woodpeckers we have that practically live in that tree. They make annoying lovely noises sounds early on Sunday mornings.
Sophie surveying the damage.
Well, at least we have a head start on our winter firewood supply. Rev up the chainsaw DM.
Cheers!

Just Shoot Me
I was playing around with the Picasa program on google. Here are some of my New York photos:
I love the architecture of old buildings. I think most of these were taken around the financial district.
Cheers!
