Disorderly Conduct.

I'm up to my eyeballs in cushion covers Gentle Readers.  I'm getting kind of frazzled sometimes too.  The other day I mailed off one to a dear lady and it was the WRONG ONE!  As soon as I posted it I knew.  A couple of emails later and things were fixed.  I'm glad she is so sweet and such a good sport.

I sent her a red one and it was supposed to be black.  It all worked out in the end though.

I think I've sent my minion into a sewing frenzy as well.  He got so focused on pounding out those covers at breakneck speed he got ahead of me.  I have to heat set the ink on the cushion covers after I silkscreen the image.  Well, you can guess what happened; he grabbed one that wasn't ready.

Catastrophe site

Mr LC ironed the ink with the iron set to steam.  OH NO!

I'm wondering if this will increase in value.  You know how stamps and money with mistakes on them become really valuable?  I'm thinking whoever buys this baby will be making a profitable investment.

I'm taking bids, who wants to make me an offer?

Broken Item of the Week.

Yes, it has happened again.  We were supposed to get a big snowfall on Saturday but that never happened.  Instead we got a skiff of snow and a lot of wind.  The wind continued all day and night. When we got up Sunday morning we were greeted with this. Hence, my broken item of the week.

What's the big deal, you say.  Well, it's where the tree fell that's the problem.

It snapped right off there.

And fell across the top of our driveway.

Emma, my trusty assistant.

Even better, our chainsaw is also broken. Looks like we might be here for awhile.

Pancakes.

Did everyone have pancakes today for Shrove Tuesday?  We had yummy vegan pancakes here at the the LC.  I got the recipe from Janet over at The Gardner's Cottage.  She has the best vegan recipes.

My favourite pancake came for a visit today.

He was wearing your typical Canadian Boy attire.  Flannel shirt and khakis. For chopping wood.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Mr. LC is a bit of a hoarder.  He doesn't like to throw things away.  However, Mr LC is not adverse to the three Rs. We spend most of our winter days in the kitchen because we are reducing our furnace oil consumption.  Not because of environmental issues, Mr LC doesn't like reducing his bank account to pay for the oil.

While moseying around the kitchen this morning I realized Mr LC was really into reusing in a big way.  Do you remember this Broken Item of the Week post.  The poor old moose looked like this:

Mr LC found some glue and put him back together.  Now he has a new job.

Then I found this poor guy sitting on the mantel.

Tsk tsk.  Look at the dust on the poor fellow.
Maybe I should just put my earrings away from now on.

Happy Valentine's Day!

In honour of Valentine's Day I usually make valentine cookies or a heart shaped cake.  This year I chose to make cookies because I like to torment myself.  Et voila.

Rolled out cookies are usually a pain to make.  This is why I only make them once or twice a year.

They don't take long to bake.

Obligatory fancy photo.

Here's another.

My favourite valentine of all:

four months old today!

Have a love-ly day Gentle Readers!  Be sweet.

p.s. I'm only having one cookie in honour of my far-away-friend.  You know who you are.

p.p.s. Don't forget to enter the draw for one of my cushion covers over at Itsy Bits and Pieces .

Broken Item of the Week?

Mr LC has been sick with a chest cold the last few days so he decided to stay home from church this morning to 'rest' as he put it.  I soldiered out the door with -14C temperatures.

Mr LC mysweatshopworker was toiling away at the sewing machine this afternoon when disaster struck.  You guessed it, the sewing machine died.

reenactment

Now what?  I had pillow orders to get filled.  Parcels to mail.  Good grief!  Then we both looked at each other and said  #1 has a new sewing machine!

Daughter #1 had been gifted a new sewing machine by her devious loving parents just this past Christmas.  I called #1 to see if she would let us borrow the machine and she agreed.

Not quite exactly as shown unfortunately

Poor, ailing Mr LC jumped up off his chair and ran to get his coat and hat and was out that door in no time.  He has been itching to get his hands on that new machine since before Christmas.  When he brought it back home we discovered #1 hadn't even taken it out of the box yet.

Mr LC happily sat in front of that machine with instruction manual in one hand and magnifying glass in the other.  Look, they just print everything smaller and smaller nowadays.  There's nothing wrong with our eyesight.

It's been nearly four hours and he's still trying to figure the beast out.  Good thing he's magically feeling better.

Here's the link for that cute kitty photo here .

It's All in the Telling.

Wednesday evening my husband watched a video.  A friend had sent him the link.  It was all about clean eating and nutrition.  The woman in the video is a doctor.  She has/had MS. She did a lot of research and came up with the Hunter/Gatherer diet.  Within a few weeks her symptoms had permanently disappeared. This is not a diet to lose weight but a lifestyle choice for better health. It's supposed to improve the brain function (mitochondria) significantly.

here
From what I understand (which isn't much) we are to eat tons of fruit and vege plus grass fed meat. Just like in the old days when our settlers' diets were from their own gardens and farm or whatever they could find to pick and hunt.

Now about this time a year ago I decided to stop eating meat, the prime reason being I couldn't stand the look or taste of it anymore.  Mr LC agreed to do this with me at home if he could eat whatever he wanted when he was somewhere else at mealtime.

I remember explaining to him how much better we would feel with such a diet.  I would make green smoothies to get valuable minerals and vitamins.  Mr LC wouldn't drink them.  He would have a sip of mine and that was that. He grew tired of eating veggies all the time.  He missed his meat.

So because his BUDDY thinks it's a good idea now so does Mr. LC.  He came home today with bags of fresh produce. None of it was organic by the way, he forgot about that.  That's pretty much all we eat these days but whatever.

Now we're going to find organic tongue and brains and liver and every other organ meat known to man.

I hope you've all eaten before seeing this photo.

No way on earth am I eating or even cooking that stuff.

I've kind of lost the plot here, but how is it whenever I suggest something it's not really taken seriously?  When a buddy suggests something it's always the right thing to do.  Every.single.time.  Does your significant other do this?

I have to confess I've been eating some meat once in a while.  I found I didn't have enough energy without it.  For some reason the smell or taste doesn't bother me anymore either.

BUT I DRAW THE LINE AT ORGAN MEAT!

He brought home so much produce that I am at quite a loss as to what to do with it all.  There's no way we can eat all this before it spoils.  Does anyone have a recipe for squash salad?  Baked celery perhaps?

Carry on.

Snow Day.

We're having a snow day here.  Mr LC used to love them, now that he's getting paid by the day, he does not.   Anyway, to clear up any misconceptions about snow day I present to you:  Rick Mercer, the Maritimes' funniest guy explaining the miracle importance of snow days to Snow Day-Hating  Torontonians.  I trust this works as well to help explain the phenomenon to our friends from Warmer Climes.

I love this guy.
