Disorderly Conduct.

I'm up to my eyeballs in cushion covers Gentle Readers.  I'm getting kind of frazzled sometimes too.  The other day I mailed off one to a dear lady and it was the WRONG ONE!  As soon as I posted it I knew.  A couple of emails later and things were fixed.  I'm glad she is so sweet and such a good sport.

I sent her a red one and it was supposed to be black.  It all worked out in the end though.

I think I've sent my minion into a sewing frenzy as well.  He got so focused on pounding out those covers at breakneck speed he got ahead of me.  I have to heat set the ink on the cushion covers after I silkscreen the image.  Well, you can guess what happened; he grabbed one that wasn't ready.

Catastrophe site

Mr LC ironed the ink with the iron set to steam.  OH NO!

I'm wondering if this will increase in value.  You know how stamps and money with mistakes on them become really valuable?  I'm thinking whoever buys this baby will be making a profitable investment.

I'm taking bids, who wants to make me an offer?

More and More.

Do you know that because I live in such a backwoods area as far as good taste and refinement are concerned  I have to source fabrics online?  I got these snazzy fabrics last week.  They are all heavy weight decorators cotton with the look of linen.  Okay, I did find the floral at the only fabric store in the whole city. (And they wonder why people shop online.)

I don't know why the gray fabric looks so light.  It's actually quite dark.    I'm going to put zippers in the covers and make them 18" square.  I do have a couple of 16" envelope back covers made because my minion forgot to cut them the right size.  Should I fire him? Should I make the pillows larger than 18"?  Will these pillows solve world peace? I'm in need of your opinions  people.

Am I Ready For This?

If you have followed my blog from the beginning, you may remember my post about my fifteen minutes of fame by being featured in a magazine.  You can read it here

A few weeks ago I was contacted by HGTV magazine.  I didn't know they had a magazine, did you?  Well they do and this is the first issue:

I was contacted because they want to feature my red alphabet pillow from my Etsy shop!  WOW!

I am thrilled and amazed.  The pillow will be featured in an article about great pillows under $30.00.  They will be sending me a copy of the issue when it is ready so I'll be sure and let you know.

Will I have to increase my staff?  Will I have to get a new sewing machine?  Will I be able to source enough ink for my silkscreen?   Oh, the problems I will have to deal with!  Riiiiight.

Finally...the Giveaway!

Gentle Readers,
Please accept my abject apologies for the delay of the giveaway.  My sweatshop worker sewing guru was unavoidably detained by making six of these:

Why, I ask you, do six angel costumes for the elementary school play take on more importance than my giveaway?
I digress.  Here's the booty:

A sixteen inch square pillow cover designed by me (with help from the Graphics Fairy) and silkscreened by me.
A vintage tablecloth, never used, made by my mum. It is a dark brown and white cloth, perfect for that brown transfer ware!

I'm also adding the pretty note cards shown in the first photo.

I'm so proud of myself for reaching over 150 posts so I want to reward you folks for putting up with me.  You know the drill, become a follower if you haven't already and leave me a comment on this post.  I'll announce the winner on Monday so get your fingers typing.  Also, this giveaway is open to anyone in the whole wide world!

Cheers!

Waiting for Spring

Here in the arctic er, the Maritimes the winters can be long, cold, and dreary. What's a snow hating, cold hating couple do on these long winter evenings? No, not that, we sew, we quilt, we... wait, that's all I know how to do!
My husband is a renaissance man, he can build, he can teach, he can preach and he can also sew! He has made all the curtains in our home, slipcovers and upholestry too. My mum was an avid quilter and I always knew that one day I'd be sorry I never learned. Well, that day arrived a little over a year ago when my mum passed away. After going through tons of my mum's quilting fabric, patterns, etc. the DM decided he would make a quilt and he did. This is that quilt. The cute little girl you see in the picture on the right is me. 'nough said.
I on the other hand make pillows. I used a silkscreen to make the one pictured above. So that is how we fill our long winter evenings except for Monday when 24 is on!
