The First Time.

On Sunday afternoon my little man went to a hockey game for the first time.

I think a love of hockey is in the DNA of every Canadian.

The popcorn and cotton candy didn't hurt either.

What Would You Do?

Please ignore the model in the chair.

There are a plethora of unfinished projects around here at the LC. I figure why not start one more?  What does it matter in the grand scheme of things?

I want to sand the floor in the kitchen before the snow flies but that may be wishful thinking. However, there is a project I can do without the able assistance of Mr LC.

I want to PAINT THE FIREPLACE!!!!!!!

Okay, I'll stop yelling now. The thing is 6'10" of ugly red brick. Mr LC doesn't like it either. The three fireplaces in the house were totally redone in the fifties as you can see by the colour of the brick. All three. Same ugly brick.

I would like to clad it but I want to try and paint it first.  However, there is no going back once painted.

There are tons of ideas on Pinterest.

See the shocking before and after of this painted brick fireplace makeover!I am thinking of painting the bricks white.

How about a wash effect???

how to paint a brick fireplace @Megan Ward Ward Minton Oldenburger, not necessarily painting brick, but the brass.... ;-)So this is where you come in. Should I go or should I stay?  Should I paint or leave well enough alone.

Oh, sweet mystery of life.  I'm waiting on you my Gentle Readers.

Like Sands Through the Hour Glass.

Googly Image

Tomorrow Mr LC and I celebrate(?) our 32nd wedding anniversary. In some ways it's hard to imagine we've been together for so long and in other ways it seems like yesterday.

Before we were married, one of his sisters told me to be careful because Mr LC was a real cheapskate. When I told him this he laughed and said that's because his sister was always asking him for money for cigarettes or gum and he wouldn't support her in those nasty habits.

Also, just before the wedding my mother in law took me aside and warned me about the first thing Mr LC would do in the hotel room on our wedding night. Being such a good girl and waiting for marriage to live together I was worried and slightly nervous to say the least.  She whispered in my ear that the first thing that would happen when we got to the hotel room was that Mr LC would immediately fix the curtains in the window of the room. He does have a fetish about drapes hanging properly.  I kept this little nugget of info to myself and sure enough, that's the first thing he did! I still have to laugh whenever I think about it.

He's a good old guy though and I wouldn't trade him for anything. I do tell him however, that if anything happened to him I would never get married again!

Love you Mr LC. You're a hoot and a holler!

I wonder if he'll take me out to celebrate? Maybe we'll go to a fancy restaurant like Dairy Queen or something.

Best date ever!

There's a New Boy in Town.

I have some sad/happy news to share, only you can be the judge.

Sassy has been traded to another team!  I know. Shocking to say the least.

Fashion Icon
Sassy has been very naughty this summer.  She decided she had enough riding and proceeded to throw Mr LC off of her back in a very decided manner.  Mr LC was having none of that. She has to go!  Proclaimed Mr LC after he picked himself up.

I myself was quite willing to say so long.  Until I saw this creature arrive to take her place in the pasture:

Meet Louis the Wonder Horse.  Not really a wonder horse, it just sounded good.  He's very tall and shall we say, not very attractive?  He danced around like a crazy thing when I was trying to take his photo.  Mr LC is in heaven because he is a Thoroughbred and Mr LC has always wanted a Thoroughbred.  He must have forgotten to tell me that little factoid.

We've had him for about a week, and he has not yet been ridden.  We shall see, Mr LC.  We shall see.

If a Tree Falls...is it a Broken Item of the Week?

I know, I know.  If anybody is still here does my blog exist?

It's been a real exciting time these last six months so I've had no time to blog. So much happening, so little time. If you believe that, I've got some marshland in moose country to sell you.

A month or so ago, we had one of our huge old ash trees cut down. What can I say, it was blocking our satellite reception. It also shaded our front lawn a lot. A whole lot.

Here is a pictorial account of the dirty deed.

I think you can click on the photos to make them bigger.  The guys figured the tree was about 60-70 feet tall.

You wouldn't catch me up there.

Live action shot.

TIMBER!!!!!!!!!

Cleaning up the mess. Praise be. We have enough wood from that tree to heat our house for the winter.  Plus I get to watch Honey Boo Boo in HD.  It's a win win.

Mondays With Muttsie

Every Monday, Grammie comes to play with me for the day.  Mummy and Daddy go to work so I get to have Grammie all to myself.

I always watch for her out the window.  I love all the cars on our street and always holler out 'Car!' when I see one.

When Grammie comes in I run to the door and give her a big hug and holler 'Hi!'  She gives me lots of kisses and hugs.

I like to play with this bear toy because I can run fast with it and it makes funny noise.

After a little while I decide I need a snack and get Grammie to open the pantry door so I can see what I want.

I like to cuddle with my doggy Bmer a lot.

Then it's time to play some more.  I like to play.

I also like to try on Grammie's funny shoes.  They're a little big on me though.

Time for lunch!  Hmm, I wonder what I'll have today.

I really like Grammie's baked beans.  I hope she brought me some!

After lunch I like to read a few books.  Before you know it, Grammie says it's time for a nap.  I run to the stairs and Grammie says 'You're a smart little muttsie'.  She's got all kinds of funny names for me.

I don't like to have a nap so Grammie rocks me and sings to me and I fall right asleep.

After my nap, I check out the window for cars again.  Soon Daddy comes home and I holler 'car car car!' and when he gets out of his car I holler 'hi hi hi'.

Then Grammie goes home.

The end.

Fleeing.

Yesterday ole Mr LC and I were weaving on the back country roads in our truck on a mission to get some hay for Sassy.  You remember Sassy right?

Haute Coutre at its best.

You remember Mr LC right?

Mug shot.

Wait.  You remember me right?

Just joshin' y'all.

Anyway, back to my point.  While drifting through the snowdrifts in our truck, I mentioned to Mr LC that this was a far cry from Paris and was our cheapskate European adventure just a dream?

When we got home, I had to go through our pictures just to make sure we were really there.  I am now going to bore you with a story of our trip to the Paris Flea Market.

For starters, in Paris the flea market is called les Puces.  Nice, eh?  Since we traversed the Metro the day before with the cousins we figured we were all that and could handle the Metro on our own, no problem.  Down to the depths of the underground we go.  Up we come and check out the map for a good twenty minutes.  Down to the depths we go again.  We actually made it even with a transfer to another line.  We were pumped.

We come up out of the metro expecting to see the flea market staring us in the face.  It did not. We were way on the outskirts of Paris in a sort of immigrant neighbourhood with lots of burly darkish skinned men standing about in groups smoking and talking profusely with each other. (not in French if you catch my drift)

Mr LC got all brave and asked one fellow if he spoke English.  No, he said. We talked to him anyway and asked him where the Puce was.  Down by the bridge he says IN ENGLISH.  We looked far off into the distance and spotted the bridge.

Now if you get to the flea market don't be discouraged when you come to all these booths with swarthy looking men selling knock offs.  They holler at you but DO NOT ENGAGE.  You will be buying more counterfeit sports wear than you know what to do with if you even nod at them.  To say I was nervous would be an understatement.  I kept wanting to go back to the metro but Mr LC was adamant. This excursion was to be the highlight of his trip and by gum, he was going to the Paris Flea or bust.  After walking through about a block of knock offs we found the entrance!!! We found it, we found the mother lode.

I only took a couple of photos because a lot of vendors don't like it.  I asked the owner of this place and he said yes and then he added 'for ten euros'.  Thankfully, he was joking.

I never saw so much silver in my life.  Mr LC was in seventh heaven as he is an avid collector.  He really wanted to get a chandelier though.  Yeah, right.  Super expensive.  I thought most things were high but Mr LC found a deal and got two beautiful serving spoons for one euro each.  I found a teeny tiny miniature cottage for a euro and that was the extent of our purchases.  I was on the hunt for linens but I fear they must have all been shipped to America because there was nothing there.  I saw some neat old metal numbers but I wasn't going to pay ten euros each for them.

Needless to say we arrived back at our apartment safely and headed out to the Paris opera house that evening.  That is a story for another day though.

Most importantly, Sassy got her hay and will be fed for another month.
