Vintage from a Vantage Point

I am still sorting and purging around our house. Today was a great day for it because we've been snowed in. I decided to tackle #1's room. Daughter #1 adores anything vintage.  Especially clothes and accessories.  She is a pack rat.  Her grandmother was also a pack rat.  I was cleaning out another dreaded box from #1's old bedroom and came upon these:

These look like perfect accessories for the girls on Mad Men.

Moving on.  I then pulled these out of the box. I never considered my childhood items to be vintage until I was informed of it by my daughter.  I don't want any nasty comments about them being antiques either.

My bingo game still in the original box from when I was a little girl.  I also found this in the game box:

Alas, it was empty.  Mum wouldn't let me have these when I was a young girl because I might grow up to smoke.  My great aunt lived with us then and she always bought them for me whenever we went up town.  I loved her.
I guess I was going to grow up to be a cigarette smoking Bingo player.  Who knew?

p.s. I'm expecting an urgent phone call from #1 forbidding me from the disposal of said items.

And how did your great aunt's plan work out? Love the handbag and glowes, looks like my grandmother is visiting you over there. She loved a little luxery and that bag doesn't look cheap!
Have a great weekend in the snow (hope it's not creating any problems for you). Lilli

I have to be careful what I say. Apparently certain bloggers are going around telling other bloggers what I say in comments on various blogs. It's a small, small blogging world.

I think it would be funny if you put these gloves on, put the purse on your elbow and you just walked around your town with your bingo cards in one hand, the Marlboro pack in the other.

hahahahahahhahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaa I am so laughing at the comment above. I agree totally! Let's start some rumors in your town.

An Urban Cottage's comment is making me laugh! I'm going to have to do a post on his comment ... I love blog-world intrigue!

Child 1 is right for you not to throw those things away ... is that a crocodile skin bag? Or alligator, I guess for you northerners?

PS Great styling with the top two photos, too!

Consider this the urgent warning! Isn't that the handbag Grammie got in Italy?

No L. The one you're thinking of was purchased in Spain. Keep up!

I want that bag, I want that bag, I WANT THAT BAG. Oo-er did I say that out loud? Don't sell it Deb(except to me). And I'm thinking of taking up smoking because I never did in my sadly only half mis-spent youth and what harm could it do now? a rebel in my 60s! Hurrah!

We pretended to smoke all the time with the bubble gum cigarettes. I almost forgot all about them. Your pocketbook and gloves are to die for. Your daughter will love them.

Super cool stuff. I don't think I'd part with it. I always tease the kids that when I'm old, I'm going to play bingo. Honestly, I think it sounds fun! :-)

And maybe shuffleboard.

Oh my goodness - you have great finds! All I'm getting rid of this weekend is crap! :)

You should definitely consider selling whatever you don't want on ebay (or feel free to send me some bingo cards, ha ha ha) - I bet some of those things would go over well, especially since they're in great condition!

CIgarettes bubble. I used to chew those all the time. Than my grandmother decided that it was probably the first step to become a smoker ans they disappeared from my life. I still remember the tase, it was horrible...but made me feel so cool.

Oh my. Smoking is such a sin. And no, you can't have candy cigarettes--must avoid the appearance of evil. But I had an aunt too...I never admitted (until now) how horrid they tasted. hehehe

The Bingo cards are a bit special and may look a bit fabulous framed up on the wall to enjoy. You could even strategically place a couple of counters on them. Perhaps the yukky tasting bubble gum was a deterrent to smoking in later years. Here they were candy cigarettes called "Fags" which have been politically altered to "Fads". Still tasteless!
