While the Cat's Away

My hubby went big rig truckin' this week with his buddy.  You know the kind, you can sleep in them and you hate to get behind them on the highway?

Anyway, I've been looking at my stairs.  These are they:

Shortly after we moved in here, I proceeded to strip wallpaper from every room in this house.  It wasn't pretty.  I truly hated wallpaper after all of that.  I removed the paper from this stairwell also.  A few years ago, my hubby thought wallpaper would look nice there because the walls looked so nice plain.  I agreed, unwillingly, but I did agree.  He picked out the paper and put it up.  I said nothing but I hated it.

Gathering inspiration from another blogger who tends to do things when her husband is away, I stripped off the paper and painted the walls my beloved Cloud white from Benny Moore.

So much better!

When hubby came home today, he noticed the change right away.  And guess what, he loved it!  Why he doesn't just let me make all the decisions around here I'll never know.

I think this really highlights the stairs and I love them. Is your place 18th Century? It looks very colonial like some of the early places here.

It's fun, isn't it...a fun kind of sneaky! Although I always get a little nervous a few minutes before he's due home! :)
Your stairs look GREAT! How old is your house -the stairwell looks old with the beam and the crooked curve.
I'm so happy your hubby likes it - you can start planning your next project. :)

Ha! Ha! That's very sneaky. I might adopt that tactic for myself. Though I do move furniture around when the Husband's not here. His rolling eyes tend to get in the way.

Yes, tell us about your house. You probably have, already, deep in your blog. I noticed the ceilings looked quite low above the mantle piece. Is that right? Is it very old? Should your blog title 'Loyalist Cottage' provide clues?

Yours in wanting a tour,

I LOVE it!!! The white looks especially good with the dark wood stairs. Great decision.

LOL! While the cat is away the mouse plays! Great idea to make the change while he is not there to try to talk you out of it. I have one more room that I need to strip wallpaper from and I am dreading it... which is why it has not been done yet.. Maybe that bedroom will just stay pink forever.

I too "change things up a bit" when my husband is gone. Wonder why us women do that sort of thing? :) Your stairs look fantastic! I am a sucker for old homes with charm and yours certainly has it.

That looks great, Deb! My husband and I go round and round, too~ I finally re-did my bathroom when I just ripped a big strip down. Now he loves it, OF COURSE...

Looks wonderful! I think the white draws attention to the beautiful wood stairs!

Love it that you waited till he was away to fix it - I always threaten to do all sorts of demo while the hubby is at work...

You go girl! I am so very impressed that you stripped the wallpaper all by yourself. I want to take down the paper we put up in our kitchen 10 years ago but I've never stripped wallpaper before and I'm a big chicken. You just might have given me the right encouragement. Drat! Worker Bee was gone to Minnesota for a few days and I should have done it then. Oh dear, I didn't mention how much better I think it looks. When does your hubs go back to school?

I love the paint, it looks so clean and fresh. Stripping wallpaper is one of my least favorite jobs ever, so that makes this project even more impressive to me! My husband would be so happy if I started doing projects when he was gone as it would free him from participating. ;)
