Broken Item of the Week

It's that time again!  I was making some biscuits for my hubby this evening and a catastrophic event occured as I was cleaning up.

My huge pyrex blue bowl!

As you can see, I nearly forgot to photograph the event, I was that upset.

It was the largest bowl in this set.  My mum gave me these when I got married nearly 30 years ago.  Daughter #1 is going to be very disappointed as she claimed these for her own. On a more positive note, I rarely used the blue one anyway as it was very large.  I also believe it's a sign not to bake anymore.

And speaking of daughters, I saw L left a comment on another blog I follow. It's a small word!

The fact that this bowl held sentimental value, means it's a sad loss, and especially for daughter #1. You're keeping your humour well despite of this. I'd be in tears!

Oh no! That's not even amusing. What a lovely set. I'm sorry, but I don't think you'll get over this breakage ... what a shame. Do you think you could get a replacement somehow?

I'd stop baking too ... or just buy plastic.

Oh dear. How I hate breaking things that make a perfect set! I guess you have to think that it had a good run for 30 years and its three siblings are still surviving! xx

Ok, this one is a huge bummer. I hate that part of the set is missing...it's just not the same.

If I start breaking things around here, purging might go a little faster! :)

Cheers and chin up!

Why do we only break the precious irreplaceable things? Maybe because we use them more than the ugly stuff. Ah well, no point in thinking about it. Send it into the ether and wonder what is next!

Oh how shocking you are really lucky not to have injured yourself, that looks sharp. I bought two boxes of glasses at Christmas, that is 12 glasses, and I splurged and got the "good ones" ie slightly nicer than the ones I normally get. I have three left and it is only march. I am seriously considering using plastic. Of course they have no sentimental attachment so completely different to your lovely bowl. But the funny thing is now every time one breaks I think of you. It is special to me how blogging changes our world in little ways, who would have thought when something breaks in my home, I would have a little chuckle and I would think of a funny and kind lady, who I have never met in person, who lives in snowy Canada...strange times xxx Katherine

Katherine,
You are so sweet!

Hi Deb, I'm writing from Annie's and we chatted about you with joy - and were tempted to break something in your honour. It's like you were actually here! Sorry about your bowl though, and I can't IMAGINE not baking... there are so many pies yet to be made and desserts to be whipped up (it hasn't been a good Weight Watchers day today!)

Ai! Gorgeous, gorgeous bowls. Yes, Providence definitely had it's hand in this---no baking---for a looooong time.
